Joy HughesMusic Classroom Energy: Use It for Good! Using Dalcroze movement strategies and Orff process, participants will explore ways to develop ensemble, to manage students in motion, to assess student understanding and to deepen learning in content areas as well. Today’s students need to create, interact and move more than ever. Having an action-oriented classroom helps to meet those needs and to engage students (with or without instruments). Join us to discover fun and powerful tools for reaching varied students, for creating community and for developing musicality. ***Joy Hughes teaches K-4th general music classes, Lower School Choir and Percussion Ensemble at Christ Church Episcopal School. She began her teaching career at CCES in middle school choral and general music. Her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education is from Furman University and her Master’s of Music is from the University of Maryland. She received Dalcroze certification from Carnegie Mellon and completed Level 1 in Orff and Kodaly. Her article on “Working Together: Interdisciplinary Ideas for Middle School” was published in the Orff Echo, and she has presented area workshops for music teachers and students. She is the current president of the SC Foothills Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
