Founded in 1959, Christ Church Episcopal School (CCES) is an independent college-preparatory school in Greenville, South Carolina, with an enrollment of 1,200 students in primer (kindergarten) through grade twelve. The arts program is flourishing. The Hartness Performing Arts Center is a state-of-the-art facility that includes a 524-seat theatre with an orchestra pit, scene shop, and dressing facilities; several large classrooms; rehearsal, band, orchestra and drums spaces; and a large lobby for pre-show functions. The visual arts program offers a variety of experiences and courses for students Primer-12 with dedicated classroom and studio spaces for ceramics, sculpture, photography, and mixed media. Talented faculty and students produce and perform high quality plays, musicals, concerts, and visual media exhibits each year.
Position Description
Christ Church Episcopal School seeks an inspiring music instructor to teach the Middle School Choir and Music Education programs for the 2025-2026 school year in grades 5-8. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty and staff across the school to cultivate an appreciation for music instruction and help students grow in their enjoyment and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences - singing, moving to music, playing instruments, listening, and performing. The position includes leading the Middle School Choir, teaching general music classes and electives to students in grades 5-8, supporting weekly chapel services, and collaborating and leading musical concerts. The opportunity to work with Middle School musical productions is also possible. We desire an inspirational, caring and collaborative educator who is able to create a vision for and develop this program.
Responsibilities
- Direct choir for grades 5, 6, 7, and 8.
- Member of Grade Level faculty team, serve in an advisory capacity for grade level class.
- Teach general music classes as necessary.
- Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, and students
- Demonstrate command of choral and general music content and curriculum
- Collaborate with Performing Arts department colleagues in the planning and implementation of concerts
- Prepare for, and support, weekly chapel services Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, interactive learning experiences that generate interest, enthusiasm and academic excellence in the classroom
- Provide small group and individualized instruction to maximize learning experiences
- Evaluate and modify activities and resources to match learners’ needs
- Utilize technology effectively to plan, teach, and assess
- Monitor and measure student progress through a variety of techniques
- Commit to continuous improvement of pedagogy through professional learning opportunities
- Demonstrate willingness to be available to students
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
*Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
*Strong understanding of music pedagogy and general music curriculum
*Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment
*At least three years of choral or vocal music teaching experience in the classroom
*Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
*A love for working with young people and an ability to inspire students
*Strong communication skills, sense of humor, and ability to empathize
*Commitment to cultivating a classroom environment of belonging that is aligned with our Episcopal identity
