Future Music Educators Symposium

We are excited to offer our inaugural “Conference within a Conference” this year in the form of a Future Music Educators Symposium.  This symposium is offered by members of our Higher Education Division and will feature clinics and presentations by distinguished members of SCMEA.  16 high school students from across SC who have expressed a career interest as music educators will attend this year’s event.  The entire event will take place on Friday, Feb. 3 and will be coordinated by Dr. David Perry from Anderson University.  See the mobile app for location of events.  The schedule is as follows:

8:00 – 9:00 AM: Check-in and Overview in Room Congaree A, Dr. David L. Perry, Symposium Director.
 
9:30 – 11:15 AM: General Session of the SCMEA Professional Development Conference.  Keynote speakers will address conference members, and music ensembles will perform. Awards will be presented and you will be recognized for selection in the first annual Future Music Educators Symposium. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to participate as your student is recognized.
 
11:30 – 12:45 PM: Session 1 “Equipping for Careers in Music Education.” Master music teachers discuss career opportunities and rewards of teaching in interactive roundtable discussions.
 
1:00 – 2:15 PM: Lunch and visits to college booths and other exhibits in the Exhibit Hall.
 
2:30 – 3:45 PM: Session 2 “How Do I Get Ready for College?” You will receive tips on how to prepare for auditions, earn scholarships, and prepare for your college experience.
 
4:00 – 5:30 PM: Session 3 “Real Life as a College Music Student” FMES members participate in an interactive workshop with Collegiate Division members to learn about “real life” as a college music education student. Review and closing session of the Future Music Educators Symposium.
